Mix: #101608

Progressive House. I know I bitched about hating House music in a previous post, but this is different. Progressive House has many of the things Im looking for, its got the heavy bass line, its got the melodic electro-ish synths (sometimes it gets a bit to Trancey for my taste). I think the thing about House that I dont like is that most of it doesnt have a soild bass. Its all so disco-synth and horn driven that it gets on my nerves. Although I did just discover some House I do like, Mike Milk and Steve Sugar. Anyway I digress. Back to the subject at hand, this mix is pretty mellow, its good background music while your doing something else. Running time is 39 minutes and 39 seconds containing 9 tracks. Im still following the Harmonic Mixing method of picking songs by key.

Mix: #090108

This is the first mix that I used the Harmonic Mixing technique. I have a few issues with this method of mixing. My main issue is that it severely limits what your able to play unless you have an absolutely huge music selection to choose from. I find it hard to stay within certain harmonies because of a lack of material to play. I have almost no “major” key music, I think there might be like 10 tracks or less. So theres a problem right there.

Anyway, this mix is less electro and more house. Its kind of mellow, its not super hard banging electro like some of the stuff Ive been listening to lately. This is kind of chill. Ive also changed the way that the tracks are listed below, insted of the time column representing the length of the track, it now represents the point at which that track is brought into the mix.

Review: John Dahlback & Sebastian Ingrosso: Lick My Deck (Original Mix)

Artist: John Dahlback, Sebastian Ingrosso
Label: Influence Records
Genre: House
Title: Lick My Deck
Time: 08:08
Remixer: -
Date: 2006/01/01
Comment: It starts with the classic beat only intro for the first 0:50 seconds. At 0:50 we get an electro blip and we start to hear a faint synth-string section begin to fade in. The strings fade in all the to the first real break at 2:03. The break gets really quiet and then the synth strings begin to fade in again and start a quick build up. The build up is supplimented by some synth wind and a siren. The break ends and the beat is back with synth strings and a groovey bassline. It continues with the string stabs and groovey bass for about a minute and then breaks again. The second break at 4:04 is very similar to the first, a synth string build-up except this time we get more snares and hi hats tword the end of the break. The rest of the song is the same.
