Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2009! I hope everything went well for you last year and that this year is even better. So far for me, its been kind of rough. Been extremely busy with work (ugh!) and trying to get several new projects off the ground.

This mix is probably one of the best Ive made in awhile. It goes from hard electro to kind of mellow progressive and then kind of bobs and waves around a kind of dark electro house sound.

Ive been kind of electroed-out the last few weeks. I just havent really been all that into it. Ive been secretly collecting chill out tunes and replay old deep house tracks. This mix was made the other day when I was just kind of killing time waiting for Keith Olbermann to come on. There are a few rough spots, but hey, nobody’s perfect.

Comment:	There are several mixes of this track available, I have chosen to review the “Instrumental Version” because it was the last version of the song that I used in a mix posted on the site. It starts with loud claps and a kind of buzzing noise in the background but quickly builds to the meat of the track. A soild kick drum and the clap continues but a nice synth bleep is added and every 32 beats there is a little micro breeakdown. At 1:20 a windup synth sound is added and it slowly starts to build up while the micro breakdowns continue. It continues to build the windup synth till it gets to 2:20. If this was one of the other mixes this is where the lyrics would start. It starts to build up again and continues till the break at 3:15 where it then starts to wind back down. When the break concludes the wind-down it continues back with the same loop that it started with. This continues to the end, where at 5:33 we get a final breakdown and its pretty minimal with just the beat, clap and a bass synth hit that repeats till the end for about a minute and a half.

This is probably one of my best mixes yet (IMHO). It flows well, it mixes well (except for the second to last track I got a bit rushed because the phone rang). There is a good mix of solid Electro House and some good classic sytle house as well. Mixed using the “Harmonic Mixing” technique. Its got several of my current favorite tracks Hi Friend by Deadmau5 & MC Flipside and Fun Punch by Bag Raiders & Whitenoise.

My Progressive House selection is pretty skimpy, I think its like 70 tracks or so. Another problem is that now that Im doing everything according to the Harmonic Mixing chart, its even harder because each key only has a handful of tracks in it.

A short Electro mix. About half way though I started to play with effects and loops a bit more than usual trying to learn some new stuff. It didnt turn out all that good, but you dont learn if you dont try. This mix is short, 6 songs, mostly a deep slightly darker electro sound. Comments??

Comment:	What planet are you on? Because you need this track! This is another remix by one of my favorite artist, Deadmau5. It starts with a soild hard beat solo which is quickly joined by a simple but effective electro bass riff. Female vocals are the essence of this song and they start right at 1:00. Its fully lyrical, although the lyrics arent the greatest the chorus hook is very cacthy. The break at 4:00 is pretty cool. It does this kind of vocal loop fade from break to beat. Its a nice effect. I like this song mainly for the hooks but the electro bass is solid, although 7 minutes is a bit long for a lyrical song it starts to get kind of repetitive after a while.
