My Ratings
So how do I rate the tracks that I review? What are the criteria for the various levels of stars and what am I looking for in a track when I buy it.
Rating: 5/5 |
To get a 5-star rating the track has to be solid. Its got to be deep, hard, and very electro. It needs to be consistent in its use of sounds and samples. It needs to be well constructed as a piece of music and it needs to flow without causing boredom half-way through. It needs to achieve the head-bob factor, if its got me rocking out at the desk, then its going to get a 5-star rating. |
Rating: 4/5 |
A 4-star is a track that is almost perfect. Its got solid electro and doesnt bore you to death half-way through. But its just not quite exactly what Im looking for, but its real close. A four-star track might have one or two sections that arent well crafted or the track might be too long or not have enough break points to mix easily. |
Rating: 3/5 |
A 3-star track is average. Its good enough to make it into the mix, but its not good enough to be something I would call a favorite. A three-star track might have one or two parts that make it stand out from other tracks that make it special. Overall its not a solid track and has a medium boredom factor. |
Rating: 2/5 |
A two-star track is a track that has minimal use. It might have one good section or it might have a special sound thats useful, but in its entirety its not useful. Its probably a track that sounded better in the sample on BeatPort than it did once I downloaded it. |
Rating: 1/5 |
If I am unlucky enough to end up with 1-star tracks its because I was fooled by the sample at BeatPort. These are the tracks where you get to hear the best part in the sample and the rest of the track is garbage, but you buy it thinking that its all just like the sample part you listened to before you bought it. |
Rating: 0/5 |
A 0-Star track is complete garbage. I was a sucker for spending money on this track. |
